I'd been in love before, so again I thought I 'd try it
They warned me not to do it, as refreshing as it looks
I was told to stay engaged as the fiance of my books
But I chose not to listen, now I'm on page 4
Chapter 6 of "Why the Fuck Don't He Want Me No More?"
Flip the page back a bit, scannin through chapter 3
Readin "How I Can Change Him and Make Him Love Me"
Put the book down a bit, jot a couple of notes
Cause I'm guaranteed an A+ if it's all quotes
So I study Chapter 12 of "What He'll Say to Hint He's Done"
Read the preface from the author: "Dedicated to the one"
Didn't think that the book would be of any use to me
So I turned off the books and turned on the TV
"Are you tired of being just the chick on the side?
Well now you can do so and still have your pride!
"New and improved desensitization!
It works fast, works quick, and is sweeping the nation!
"Call the number on your screen to find out how!
Only so and so left, so hurry, act NOW!"
Turned the TV off quickly and opened the pages
Of a book I had not touched in so many ages
Blew the dust off the cover, the pages seemed new
Read the title out loud: "How to Love You For You"
Read that book front to back in a matter of minutes
Seemed like it had not enough pages within it
After closing the cover and reading the end
I decided that I was my only true friend
I vowed always to be there for me, no matter what
And would ignore my heart and follow my gut

I realized today I need a man like me,
A man who loves Hip-Hop and R&B
A man who's just fine with chillin for a while,
Doesn't judge cuz his girl's got her own damn style.
A man who can cry and not hide in his sleeves,
A man who can speak what he truly believes
A man who knows just how to make me giggle
Loves the way that I walk, dip, sway and wiggle
I woke up to needing a man like me
When my soul is enslaved, he will set me free
He will write me a song with no paper and pen
If I don't recollect, he'll just tell me again
If I tell him "not now", there's no love lost,
He'll be there when I need him, no matter the cost
We can laugh if we want, we don't need any humor
He'll believe his own girl over any old rumor
When I'm being a bitch, he'll still love me the same
When I make a mistake, he'll correct and not blame
He will tell me I'm beauty, a queen in his eyes
We will always be honest,we'llhave no room for lies
If I ask if he likes it, he'll tell me he doesn't
He'll text me at work and make me wish I wasn't
He'll get mad at me but he'll never react
If he has to step out, I know he'll be right back

I realized today that this man hasn't met me

Last night was the last night...
Last night, I reached out to you, to save you
but you jumped before I could grab you
because you couldn't wait
Last night I had every intention of coming back
of being happy
of being with you with you with you with you with you
but you didn't want to hear it
Last night I wanted to talk to you
I was upset but still wanted us
Still wanted to give you me
but you hung up so abruptly
Last night I thought about everything we've been through
about all the pain
all the pleasure
all the rain...
but you didn't want to wait for my umbrella ella ella eh eh eh
Last night I tried to wait out the pain
I tried to turn it into peace
but with every text
every call
every stop
I realized I was going the wrong way
And part of me wants to scream
but only on the inside
Part of me wants to be mad
but only until forever
But I refuse to cry
because you let go
I wanted to save you
I wanted you to be safe
I wanted to be safe with you
I wanted you to be out of harm's way, away from the frigid waters that turn you oh so cold, oh so cruel. oh so careless...
